He was a sailor, member of power squadron, one of five founders of the Bradenton Yacht Club. He was a freelance writer, real estate agent, yacht salesman. During WWII was his company historian - fourth infantry division under General Van Fleet. Landed on Utah Beach on D Day, in the Battle of the Bulge, Battle of the Ardennes, and in the first group of soldiers into Paris at the Liberation. He married Donna Margaret Day. They had two daughters, Betsy and Peggy. His ashes were scattered at the bell buoy at Egmont Key in Tampa Bay, symbolic of "home", sailing in from the Gulf of Mexico after SORC races
