A Miles City man was found dead in his back yard Tuesday morning of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound in the head.
Police were called to the home about 6:30 a.m. by an ambulance driver who was called anonymously.
They say Jack Labrie, 50, had been dead nearly 12 hours when they arrived.
Custer County Sheriff William Damm gave the following account:
Labrie called someone in Billings Monday and said he was going to commit suicide.
Damm got word of the call and went out to talk to Labrie.
Labrie assured him everything was all right.
When police were called to the scene they found a Luger pistol in the home.
Damm says it was apparently carried inside by Mrs. Labrie.
He says she was in the house when police arrived and is now hospitalized with cuts and bruises she says her husband inflicted.
Damm says neighbors apparently heard a shot about 7:30 p.m. Monday but did not call police.
Officials are calling the death "Apparent suicide."
